Rinnagonnaght in Doonbeg townland

Post by pwaldron »

The people of the parish of Killard seems to have an unusual propensity for using local placenames which are not official townland names.

One of these appears in the townland of Doonbeg as Rayoganagh on the Historic 6" OSi maps and as Rinnagonnaght on the Historic 25" OSi maps; see

It has come up in at least two discussions on this forum over the years:

- In an unmicrofilmed 1846 marriage register:

- On an 1882 tombstone inscription in St. Paul, MN:

Other spelling variations will be encountered; see
