Morey or Maury or Murrihy

Post by kbarlow »

I have an ancestor whose mother's name on the Australian death cert was spelt as "Morey". On her brother's death cert it was spelt as "Maury". Near the townland her mother may have come from there is one family with "Morey" (but no "Maury") in the Clare GenMaps. There are a few "Murrihy" nearby. Can any of the Forum members familiar with pronunciations advise me if the Aussie bureaucrats assisting the death informant to register the event may have heard "Murrihy" as "Morey"???

Kind regards, Kerry

Kerry,
I have often heard 'Murrihy' pronounced as 'Murry' in Clare - if that's of any help.
