Sixmilebridge incident leads to book publication 1838

Post by smcarberry »

A physical confrontation underlying a social controversy was not unusual in its time but the involved official's reaction was singular. Wilson was a leading member of the gentry in East Clare, well known for the model agricultural school on his property at Belvoir, in the vicinity of Sixmilebridge. Unconnected with that enterprise was the enmity between families of Browne and McMahon on one side and Daniel Molony on the receiving end in 1837, resulting in a criminal case and an order for transportation. Additional names of Cody, Henchy, Bethel, and Daffy appear in this account.
