Back in August I looked for help with finding information about Dr George W O'Brien of Ennis and Paddy Waldron kindly provided a link to Glasgow University's database of alumni, which gave a date of death for the doctor of 2 December 1864. However I could find no mention of his death in the relevant newspapers. Today, after some very lucky breaks, I have found a lengthy report on his death and its consequences for the County Infirmary ... almost a year earlier! His DOD was 8 December 1863.
So moral of the story - don't necessarily believe apparently sound sources like a University database, and try to find another source to corroborate.

Re: Beware of sources!
Dr. George O'Brien's death is reported in the 150 years ago section of the Times Past column of this week's Clare Champion (29 Nov 2013, Living Section, p.4).

Thanks for that alert Paddy. I have just downloaded the item digitally.
