Millanneenbeg "Shayley" 1815

Post by mgallery »

Can anyone track down this placename for me ? I have tried the obvious Clare library website options. I think it is in the Dysert Corofin or general Burren area (most likely) I have nothing else to tie it down. I am looking for the modern day townland and parish

Millanneenbeg "Shayley" 1815

thanks

If no one writes in with a better guess, consider whether the letter "M" was actually "K" and the take a look at Killeenan. That location is near Shallee which might be your Shayley. Since there was a Shallee quarry, I believe it is the ugly gray feature labelled on a current map as Ballybrody. All these locations are in Dysert parish, about 8 miles w-nw of Ennis and also close to Corofin.

Note also that the Griffiths Valuation has a similar placename of Mollaneen, which must be near Carhoo, judging from the listing there for Michael Cahir.

I am currently researching a McMahon family of Soheen, with a history that has included the Michael Cahir family (likely the same one for which the NAI will index shows Michael of Licknaun with an 1878 death date). Thus I have this material readily at hand. Glad that it might be of additional assistance to someone.

Hurrah I had to find about 30 placenames not all obvious.
