Re: Parish Records - Transcribers Register

A posting by Heikki on the OSI-ie mailing list this week included a link to a superb little .gif file which shows the progress with mapping townlands in Ireland. The same data display paradigm could be used for tracking all sorts of projects, including transcriptions of genealogical sources such as registers of baptisms, births, marriages and deaths.

See https://drive.google.com/file/d/19XqMm4 ... RAvFu/view and also

https://github.com/rory/sotm-2016-talk- ... y-user.png and

https://2016.stateofthemap.org/2016/map ... oundaries/

The OSI-ie people really are amazing as are the OSM contributors (who all work for free, like you all).

Hi Murf

I’ve completed St. Senan's (Kilrush) at last and starting now on Kilkee, but finding the first few pages very faded and mostly illegible. I will get on with it, anyway, and will have by the end of the month.

Hi Murf

I’ve completed Kilkee and now I’m starting on Doora-Kilraghtis marriages 1823 – 1880. Yes, I know it’s been done by Clare Roots Society, but I want to do my own version and include the witnesses. I can add it in to the existing Doora-Kilraghtis thread – or will that cause a headache to whoever is dealing with donations?
I expect that this will be my last transcription.

Hello,
Is there any update to the status of the items in progress? Very eager for Broadford and Sixmilebridge.

Thank you.

Sorry Jackie, but I have no news on this.
We seem to have lost touch with those transcribers.
Perhaps someone out there can enlighten us.

Hi Murf

I've just begun a transcription of Broadford baptisms. If the person who has her name down for it gets back to you, I will leave off.

Hi Murf

As you know, I've completed Broadford, so now I am starting on Sixmilebridge, but I will leave off if requested.

Thanks Sheila
My recent attempt to contact the Sixmilebridge transcriber has been unsuccessful, so I'm not expecting to hear anything further.

Hi Murf

Happy to say I've completed all four Sixmilebridge registers. Resting up now!

Hi Murf, I noticed that the link to the Kilmihil Community site is not working, so I’ve done a transcription of the first Baptism-Marriage register (1849-1869). The index made by Fr. Gaynor in 1945 is so good, there is hardly a need for a transcription. Likewise with the second register (1870-1880), but I hope to do a transcription of that register as well.

Sheila

P.S. In order to attach my Kilmihil transcriptions, I needed to delete the attachments from three of my contributions to the forum (some Rate-Kilnaboy transcriptions:
(1): http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... f=1&t=6846
(2): http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... f=1&t=6852
(3): http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... f=1&t=6854

It occurs to me that I could do a lot more of this deleting (now that the material is in Donated Material) and thereby make space on the forum for other contributors - what do you think?
