Kathleen Lillis

Post by bastabld4 »

Hi, I am researching my family history and need help with any information regarding my Grandmother Kathleen Lillis. She was born in the Ennis or Ennistymon areas in May 1910. I believe her parents were Patrick and Bridget, Patrick was a farmer. I believe these are possibly the names of Kathleen's siblings: Susan, Austin, Michael, John, Bridget and Peter. Kathleen left Ireland when she was about 18 and moved to Birmingham, England. If anyone can help with any information, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

Hi - there is a Catherine Lillis born 1908, registered @ Ennis, mother's maiden name is Enright (image not yet avail @ Irish Genealogy site). A marriage of Patrick Lillis & Bridget Enright in 1891 (@ Doora). Five others to that couple.

Hi - there is a Kathern Lillis - aged 2 on Census of 1911 at Ballyvulligan in DED of Killone - but different siblings to those mentioned - see http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie - 1911 - Co. Clare - Townland Ballyvulligan - DED Killone. - this area is just south-west of Ennis. Miriam.

Have a look in the 1901 census in the Liscannor area, beside Ennistymon.

A family is entered under the name Lillas in the 1901 census in Knocknaraha, Killaspuglonane.
See the Clare library census of Clare under 62/3 (D.E.D. Liscannor, townland of Knocknaraha).

In the 1911 census (see the National Archives of Ireland website) under the Liscannor D.E.D. look at the Lilles entry in Ballycotteen North (beside Knocknaraha).

It seems in 1901 the family was entered as Lillas and in 1911 as Lilles.

This might be the family you are seeking.

Looks like you are spot on with that Polycarp, it's a good match.
I went looking for marriage and birth registrations and found that:
Patrick Lillis married Mary Moroney at Ennistymon on 14 Sep 1897. This was a couple of weeks after Mary had given birth as a single mother to bridget on 27 Aug 1897. Bridget was registered as Bridget Moroney.
I found also Susan 5 Oct 1898, and Mary 5 May 1902.
Unfortunately I had no such luck with the remaining children.
Looks like Patrick may have been a bit delinquent with the registrations.

The original post mentions two less common names for possible siblings: Austin & Peter. A search @ Irish genealogy site for those names shows 2 Austin Kinnanes (1909 @ Ballyfaden & 1915 @Callura ) mother is Bridget Lillis; Peter Kinnane (1916 @ Ennistymon workhouse) mother is Bridget Lillis also (but no Austin or Peter with Lillis surname).
