Would anyone have information about the Floyd family,
of whom one was living in Meelick, holding 36 acres,
in July 1867?

Hi Matthew

Richard and Honoria Floyd, Meelick, are mentioned in “News items for Ennis, central Clare, and undertermined places”, contributed by Sharon Carberry on 16 Apr 2008: http://www.ourlibrary.ca/phpbb2/viewtop ... Floyd#p373. A notice of Honoria’s death was published in the Freemans Journal on 29 Jan 1863: “January 26, at Meelick, Honoria, relict of Richard Floyd, Esq., Waterville, Ennis.”
I decided that Richard probably died sometime after 1864 and thought I would find the record on genealogy.ie. There were only 15 records of Richard Floyds (births, deaths, marriages) and not one from any of the Clare Unions. But this one from Queenstown, Co. Cork, might be for him: 3 March 1904, I Lynch’s Quay: Death of Richard Floyd, widower, aged 96, Annuitant; informant: John Murphy, 1 Lynche’s Quay: https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/ ... 584610.pdf. Then I looked at the 1901 census and saw that Richard was a boarder at the house of Ernest Cherrett. He gives his age as 87 and his county of birth as Co. Clare: http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/r ... 000563656/. You will notice that his income was from landed property. I was interested to see that he was Roman Catholic. I looked at Cratloe parish marriages (the transcription), 1822 – 1877, but did not find him there, but, of course, the marriage would have taken place in Honoria’s parish. I looked at Cratloe baptisms (the transcription), 1802 – 1856 and 1857 – 1877, but found no Floyd baptisms. There were some Flood baptisms and MacLysaght says that Floyd is normally a variant of Lloyd, but sometimes synonymous with Flood. I don’t know if that is the case here.
Searching my own documents, I see that I saved a document entitled “Catholic meeting attendees”(excel format), a list of names including Floyd, Richard, Junior, and Floyd, Richard, Senior, but I don’t know where I found it and there’s no date. Was it contributed to the forum by you?

Sheila

Many thanks Sheila. The Meelick Floyd was one of the subscribers in
1856 to the building of Saint John's Cathedral Limerick.
