Springfield College (St Flannan's) ~ Student Records 1854-59

My great grandfather attended Springfield College in Ennis from 1854-59 before apprenticing as solicitor for Matthew Kenny in Dublin.

I've contacted St Flannan's about copies of his records and the current President just sent me an email.

St Flannan's does not have any Springfield records.

I'm very disappointed.

Does anyone have any ideas about where those Springfield College records could be archived?

Thank you!
Susan

I don't think any records from the 1850s survive, Susan. This is a great pity.

In the "Clare Journal", 26 September 1861, in a display advertisement for the college, there is a list of matriculating students for the years 1857, 1858, 1859, 1860 and 1861. In this same advertisement it states that Springfield College is incorporated with the London University by Royal Charter.

I am still trying to locate the Student Records for Springfield College in Ennis where my great grandfather studied from 1854-59.

The current President of St Flannan's has told me that they do not have any Springfield records.

I just discovered that one of St Flannan's history professors, Dr Ciarán Ó Murchadha, has written an article for "The Other Clare" about the history of the College.

I've decided to contact him but can't find an email address....

I'd rather not go through Fr McMahon (President) but St Flannan's doesn't publish their teachers' email....

Any ideas about contacting Dr Ó Murchadha?

Thank you !
