Names of Lives or other Tenure

Post by bobcusack »

Hello everyone,
On the various Freeholders Lists available through Clare Library, can the names listed in the columns under the heading "Names of Lives or other Tenure" be taken to refer to children of the Freeholder, particularly when a name which is the same as the Freeholder's appears there?
Thank you, Bob

No unfortunately. They may be children, they may be nephews or cousins or wives or siblings brothers-in law. In my own research they have nearly always turned out to be relatives but not necessarily children. If you can get a look at the original leases they often specify the relationship. The Inchiquin leases are in the NLI.
