Hi

Any help on tying these place name references to their present day locations appreciated
Angle/Angel Park Kildysart (named in Leets in 1814 I think its a house)
Glaunagross - named on an 1814 lease as in barony of Bunratty in 1821 freeholders

thanks

Glaunagross is listed on the Clare Library website. It's in the parish of Killeely.

Thanks unfortunately that does not answer my question. It does add to the puzzle.

I want to identify the modern day location, townland and parish that Glaunagross is in.
I have a possibility modern day glenagross in the parish of St Munchins right next to the parish of Kileely or a possibility that the glaunagross mentioned in the 1824 Irish education enquiry (which is I think what you meant by it is on Clare library website as it is not listed under townlands in the parish) is the place. I suspect as the parishes are adjacent we are talking about the same place and it is St Muchins.

There is no other mention to Glaunagross on the website- in fact the first one I had on the 1821 freeholders is not picked up by the search - and no obvious connection for the family to either Kileely or St Munchins. Michael Kenny lived in Limerick and Kildysart area and his wife was from Tipperary

Peter Beirne from Clare local studies kindly checked Goblet’s topographical index for me and gave the below answer
There are no Irish townlands beginning with the prefix Glaun- listed in the 1851 general townlands index.

There is a Glennagross in the parish of St Munchin’s, barony of Bunratty, barony of Bunratty Lower, County Clare. Perhaps this is the one you seek.

This is adjacent to Kileely. He follows up by saying that parish boundaries and townlands were not fixed in 1824 so St Munchins is in fact the correct parish not Kileely

I have tracked Angle/Angel Park to Clondagad in the 1826 tithe applotments (Michael Kenny is gone then). Where is it modern day does anyone know. the townland after it is Pigsfield. Dont know if that means that it was contiguous in geographic location or not
thanks

There are six baptisms in Angel*park in the 1846-81 Clondagad baptismal register as transcribed at clarelibrary.ie.
The parents are:
Michael Fitzgerald/Eleanor Keane x1
Michael Hill/Bridget McMahon x1
Michael Hill/Mary Shea x1
Pat Meany/Mary Cal*inan x3

The Meanys had two older children when their residence was described as Ennisdea and two younger children (twins) when their residence was described as Balycorick.

The spreadsheet has no address for their last child, Honor, but the corresponding civil record confirms that she was born in Angel Park, which must therefore be in or close to Ballycorick.

One Hill couple has two other children with residence Ballicorick; the other has on other child with residence Beneadin.

The Fitzgeralds have one other child with residence Ballicorick.

Griffith's Valuation has none of these three surnames in Ballycorick, but has Michael Fitzgerald and Patrick Meany in the small townland of Gortnamuck, adjoining Ballycorick. Inishdea is on the other side of Ballycorick, the two townlands separated by Ballycorick Creek.

So the balance of probabilities suggests that Angel Park is somewhere around the border between Gortnamuck and Ballycorick.
