In Clare, Kane and Keane have always been interchangeable surnames.

On familysearch.org, they are not, and most be searched for separately.

This was brought to my attention when I tracked down the archived version of a now-vanished page which I bookmarked many years ago:

This page sorts birth by family groups and their are many obvious examples of one child registered as Kane and a sibling registered as Keane.

I have looked for other spellings also. Like Cane, Cain and such. I know they are less likely and usually more English than Irish, but you never know if you might find a random link.

From what I have found, the Keane's left Co Clare in the mid to late 1800's. Anyhow, my Kane's appeared to have. Never been able to make a connection so far.

Thanks for the link. When I find time I will have to see what names are there. A quick scan says they are all after my family left.
