I know that the Clare Library has a donated transcription of an index of Clare men's names on the rolls of the British Army
dating way back into the 1800s. The below information may overlap with that to some extent. However, the links which I
show below are ones which now lead to the actual pages of a soldier's service record and any pension file. There are some
duplicate listings, which I did not try to winnow out. I also did not correct the spelling of Clare localities, as often the index
has those incorrect while the actual file pages have the proper spelling. Often, but not invariably, the men list their next of
kin and provide birthdates for their children.
I happen to have chosen 1880 as a birth year to search, plus additional years before and after that year. For the service
records, I had to supply a first name to get search results, so I tried a few. For the pension files, I obtained results for any
file which the search engine found as connected to "Clare," then I narrowed the results down to known Co. Clare locations.

Re: British military records, in full, online
Someone has been very interested in publicizing British military records which provide details on individual soldiers and sailors. These concern a time period prior to the one involved in my original posting here. The men who are on the "British Medals" website were mostly born before 1870, although there is also a death index for the early 1900s. There are listings which only state Ireland as a soldier's origin, so it is worthwhile to use the site's search engine for see for any surname you are researching. Having a unique surname is valuable here, as there are thousands of listings. For example, there are records for:
Henry Cudmore
George and William Gritt
Patrick Verlin
Also note listings for Mannix, Manogue, and Minogue.
I show below indications of records for men from Clare. More information is available from the site owner, in most cases.

Re: British military records, in full, online
Sharon's first link above has probably long expired (as it includes an "offerid") but the database is still available to subscribers at http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=1219
I notice that the address of John Godfrey King, son of Rev. Samuel Waldron King, is given as Kirkisham [really Kilkishen].

Re: British military records, in full, online
I am adding here another online resource: the many Hart's annual army lists in Google Books. Consulting one there will bring up a display of book covers/links for the others along the bottom of the screen, which is a Google feature. I haven't tried to do a full cataloging but I think I saw one in the late 1700s. Below are links to some (but not all) in the 1800s, together with a re-listing of one already noted on the Forum by Paddy Waldron. This is not a new resource, but I mention it for the sake of inclusion. There will not be detailed entries, but these can help narrow a time of death or retirement, in the way that city directories are useful.
