Here is the link to research compiled in book form by someone who included only records seen personally. There is only one family from Clare, the Carneys. Patrick Carney was one of the parishioners in the 1850s who lent his home for Catholic masses, and Thomas (likely his son) became the first president of the Gardner chapter of the AOH (page 71, screenshot shown).

Re: Carney family re-settled in Gardner MA
Regarding the County Clare Carney's mentioned in the book: Henry, Patrick, Thomas--
Henry Carney Marriage, 31 Mar 1861, Marriages recorded in Gardner: v. 146, p. 163, item 3
Groom: Henry Carney, W[white], res. Gardner, 21, chair maker, b. Clare Co. Ire., parents: Patrick & Mary Carney, First marrriage;
Bride: Julia Agnes Donohoe, W[white], res. Gardner, 21, [no occ. given], b. Sligo Co. Ire., parents: John & Ann Donohoe, First marriage;
performed by E. Turpin, Cath. Pastor of Fitchburg,
note in margin: "Mar. at Fitchburg"
As the book indicates (and from my own research), it really is a rare thing for the county within Ireland to be given in a Massachusetts vital record. It's such a rarity that I had to hunt down which record the book's author might have meant. Attached is a snippet showing Henry's marriage indicating his birthplace as County Clare.
Henry F. Carney died in Gardner on Oct 15, 1900 aged 62 yrs, 5 mos, 1 day. His mother's maiden name was given as Mary Cooney and he was married (not a widow). This death record at Gardner shows his birthplace at the typically brief and not very helpful location of "Ireland".
