Lallys of The Causeway Ennis

Post by lenc »

.

Bit of a long-shot this, but by any chance are there any relations or decendants of the Lally family of The Causeway [now francis st] Ennis on the forum or knocking around? They also owned a hotel I think inO'Connell st

Catherine Lally [1860-1909] daughter of Martin Lally and Margaret McTigue married my Grandfather Leonard Costello in 1888 in Ennis.

If there are I would love to make contact either by pm on here or on the board itself

Hi Lenc,

See the "Clare Journal", dated Monday 8 July 1907, page four. There is a lengthy report on the death and funeral of Mr Martin Lally of the Causeway, Ennis.

There is reference to his son-in-law Leonard Costello in the report, as well to the grandchildren of the deceased, Gillie, May, Ivy and Billie Costello.

The newspapers of the time were scrupulous in naming all the mourners at a funeral and there is an extensive list of names of those who attended the funeral.

Here is some of what I know about the Lally's of Ennis. This is the 1911 census page of the Hotel in O'Connell St I think. The two spinster ladies were known as "The Misses Lally"

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/p ... /353847/

My Grandfather, Leonard Costello married Catherine Lally daughter of Martin lally and Margaret McTigue on July 10th 1888.

Martin and Margaret had other children including these:

Name: Martin Lally
Gender: Male
Birth Date: 22/05/71
Birth Place: Ennis, Clare, Ireland
Baptism Place: Ennis, Clare, Ireland
Father's name: Martin Lally
Mother's name: Margaret Mc Tigue

Name: Margaret Lally
Gender: Female
Birth Date: 27/11/68
Birth Place: Ennis, Clare, Ireland
Baptism Place: Ennis, Clare, Ireland
Father's name: Martin Lally
Mother's name: Margaret Mc Tigue

Martin I believe died in Brooklyn USA,while the other Lally's are buried in Drumcliffe with Costellos
